Stored in the museum hangar at Timaru is the DHC-1 Chipmunk c/n CI-0099.
Built as WB660 for the RAF and taken on charge on 07-07-1950 it served with various units until sold off on 18-01-1961.
Registered in the UK as G-ARMB it was cancelled on 19-08-2004 as exported to NZ.
The owners then being Tony Green & Sarah Clapham.
Shipped to NZ along with the DH82A Tiger Moth c/n 86546 they were initially stored in what is now Craig Pilcher's hangar at Timaru.
The Tiger became ZK-TGR and the Chippie was allocated ZK-CHP (both reasonably apt registrations) on 18-01-2005 to Tony and Sarah Green (bit of a name change there).
Both registrations have been previously allocated.
ZK-CHP initially being a Cessna 172F which was destroyed in a hangar fire during a rebuild on 31-03-1981 having been storm damaged at Taihape on 10-09-1980.
ZK-TGR was first issued to a Cessna 152 which was damaged on take off at Ardmore on 15-02-1994.
As can be seen the Chippie is some way away from flying.
