Fiji’s Military Commander and Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama - has invited the Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI) – or Indonesia’s National Armed Forces to use jungles in Fiji for military training.
The invitation was made to the TNI Chief - Admiral Agus Suhartono – in a meeting in Jakarta yesterday.
Commodore Bainimarama noted that Fiji’s jungles have attracted military forces in the past.
About 51% of Fiji’s land mass has some sort of forest cover, 42% is native, 9% is plantations (photo : national Geographic)He says the massive TNI - with its three separate divisions – the Army, Navy and Air Force - has a lot to offer the Fiji Army in terms of training.
Indonesia has also applauded an initiative by Fiji to send more military officers for staff college training in Indonesia.
Admiral Suhartono hopes the relationship with Fiji will further develop over the years.
