The Air Force's new Orion will be officially welcomed into service today.
The new P-3K2 will be shown off at the air base at Whenuapai, after being upgraded in the United States.

The other five Orion's are to be upgraded in Blenheim where they will be given a new data management sensor and communications and navigation systems.

The upgrade is considered a significant milestone for the New Zealand Defence Force because the planes will be able to do more than just marine patrols.

The Government's forking out 373 million to upgrade the six Orion's, in the hope they will be able to keep flying for another 15 years.

The return flight will cost RM239 (more than I expected, actually, but I don't get to waste the afternoon and evening hours) and I think that I shall need perhaps another RM70 for travel from Subang airport to my destination in KL. Total cost is around RM310.According to the Firefly website, it only takes about 30 minutes of ground travel time from the airport to the Kuala Lumpur city centre. It doesn't elaborate but I think that Fireflyz meant the KLCC and not anywhere else. Where would the Kuala Lumpur city centre be if not the KLCC?
At the airport, taxi coupons must be purchased at the taxi counter near the Skypark information counter, and the taxi counter is open from 7am to 11.30pm. (I think it is a type error on the website because it says until 11.30am.) Anyway, cost per trip is RM35 to all destinations in Kuala Lumpur and RM23 to all destinations in Petaling Jaya, including the Kelana Jaya Putra Light Rail Transit (LRT) station.

Adria falls on hard times

Eurocontrol trouble for Adria
According to sources close to Adria Airways, the Slovenian national carrier owes millions to Eurocontrol, the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation, responsible for the management of air traffic across Europe. The airline has failed to make payments to the European body for months despite numerous warnings. MAT Macedonian Airlines, the now defunct national carrier of Macedonia, had similar problems prior to its demise and was forced to suspend certain routes as a result of its late payments.

However, Adria will soon receive government aid to the tune of 6.1 million Euros. Since the European Union forbids direct government assistance, the Ministry of Economy has proposed for the Slovenian Government to issue loan guarantees to banks. The European Commission has allowed for such arrangements to be made. The Ministry further concluded that Adria Airways is a company with a high bankruptcy risk but that its demise would have serious negative consequences in the region. Furthermore, the Ministry believes that Adria has the basis for recovery and restructuring.

The cash strapped carrier recently announced it would be slashing employee wages by 20% and cutting down on its workforce. In the first quarter of 2011 the airline carried 218.384 passengers, a small passenger increase of only 2% compared to the same period last year. April is set to see double digit growth for Adria as this time last year the airline was first forced to cut down on services due to runway work at Ljubljana Airport and then had to deal with air space closure due to the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland.
