Glider lost out of Omarama 27-02-2009. ZK-GYY.

Schempp-Hirth Duo Discus ZK-GYY c/n 306 crashed onto the side of Mt Saint Cuthbert shortly after tow release on 27-02-2009 with the loss of one of the crew.

Saint Cuthbert; sometime written as St Cuthbert; and loosely called Mt Horrible by many, is in the background above the canopy in the top photograph. Mt Horrible is actually the mountain beyond Saint Cuthbert.

This Duo Discus first joined our register courtesy of Bruce Drake of Drake Aviation and was allocated Bruce's "special" registration of ZK-GRZ4 (from memory) [RZ inferring R Zend] on 03-12-2001 before being re-registered as ZK-GYY on 14-10-2003. It was listed to Glider Rentals on 10-05-2004.
