Podgorica and Chisinau to cooperate

The representatives of the company “Airports of Montenegro” which run Montenegro’s 2 international airports – Podgorica and Tivat have signed an agreement with Moldova’s main airport located in the capital Chisinau. The agreement will see cooperation between Montenegro’s airports and Chisinau Airport on all levels which aim to increase the level of services and quality at both airports. The delegation from Moldova’s main airport visited Montenegro last week when the cooperation agreement was signed. The European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has just approved a 40 million Euro credit for Chisinau in order for the airport’s terminal to be redeveloped. The Moldovan delegation was most impressed with the recent construction of Podgorica Airport’s new terminal and the ongoing reconstruction of the airport’s old Terminal 1.

Both Podgorica and Chisinau airports are similar in size and passenger movements. In 2008 Moldova’s main airport had 830.000 passengers pass through its doors while Podgorica Airport had a total of 500.000 passengers. Chisinau is currently served by 11 scheduled airlines with the national carrier Air Moldova recently put on sale. Podgorica Airport is served by a total of 8 scheduled airlines.
